Solidarity with Ukrania becomes an inflexion point of the Europeu IFBB 2022 of Santa Susanna

“Almost 900 athletes from 42 countries turn the municipality into the capital of bodybuilding and fitness, organizing and hosting the European competition of this sport

Solidarity with the people of Ukraine and the conviction that sport must be above any war conflict has marked the European Congress of the IFBB, the International Federation of Bodybuilding and Fitness, and the corresponding championship. For the first time Russia has not participated in an event of these characteristics. Nor was Belarus present. Despite the absences of the athletes from these two states, who represent almost 20% of the total number of participants, at no time have they been explicitly mentioned. Both the president of the International Federation, Rafael Santonja, and the mayor, Joan Campolier, wanted to make it clear that sport should not pay for the problems of war.

From May 5 to 8, Santa Susanna has seen almost 900 athletes from 42 countries who have participated in the European Bodybuilding, Fitness & Fitness Challenge in the senior, junior and master categories. The Ukrainian delegation has only been able to participate with female athletes (27); the men have not been able to be there because their country is at war and they are all mobilized. The Ukrainian women have been able to come thanks to the efforts of the Romanian Fitness Federation and the IFBB. The 27 participants have crossed the border through Romania and in this way have been able to reach Santa Susanna.

During these days, in Santa Susanna, in addition to the thousand athletes, around 200 people have come, including accompanied and federative members. This means that these days, in the municipality there have been around 5,000 overnight stays.

Santa Susanna and the IFBB have begun to talk about the possibility that the world congress and the Bodybuilding, Fitness & Fitness Challenge World Championship will also be held in the municipality from November 2 to 6, 2022. The forecast is that more will attend. from 100 countries and more than 2,000 athletes from the world elite of this sport.”
