Santa Susanna receives the endorsement of the State to thread its future like Smart Tourist Destination
19 de January de 2021The path of smart destinations begins, with a roadmap that will allow you to position yourself to approach the digital and sustainable transformation in the context of the new European recovery funds.
Santa Susanna has received today the roadmap for its new conversion into a Smart Tourist Destination, that has been prepared by SEGITTUR after carrying out a diagnostic report and analyzing the measures that should be implemented in the 5 axes of the DTI model (governance , innovation, technology, accessibility and sustainability.)
The Secretary of State for Tourism, Fernando Valdés, has handed to the Mayor of Santa Susanna, Joan Campolier, the Smart Tourist Destination hallmark, with a roadmap that will allow him to position himself to approach the digital and sustainable transformation in the context of the new European recovery funds.
Valdés has highlighted that “the roadmap and the action plan will allow Santa Susanna to take advantage of the opportunities that open up and emerge strengthened from the situation as complicated as a consequence of Covid-19”.
Campolier pointed out that “Santa Susanna aspires to be the benchmark coastal destination in the Mediterranean for its efficient management of sustainability. To achieve this, we have designed a strategy and an ambitious plan in the hands of the business community of the destination. Promote sustainable mobility, adapt the coastal strip to make it more resilient in front of the foreseeable effects of climate change, promote the circularity of the economy through agricultural products Km0 between the tourism sector and local commerce, conserve beaches, the biodiversity and the landscape are some of the actions that we will implement immediately. The challenge is ambitious, but it is worth it ”.
For the preparation of the diagnostic report and action plan for Santa Susanna, meetings have been held with all the agents related to the sector and more than 400 requirements related to the axes of a smart tourist destination have been analyzed.
Of the five axes analyzed, sustainability is where the city obtains the best results, as a result of Santa Susanna’s commitment to tourism sustainability, especially about the conservation and improvement of cultural heritage, as well as for its sustainable energy plan.
About governance, this is the second of the most highly valued axes thanks to its commitment to transparency and participation. It is proposed to strengthen the managing entity of the destination, as well as to prioritize the strategic planning that should work in the next decade, both in terms of the city and from the vision of an intelligent tourist destination.
In relation to accessibility, the roadmap indicates the need to develop strategic documents, as well as promote the accessible offer and incorporate accessibility into the destination promotion tools.
Regarding the recommendations to improve innovation, it is proposed to create a specific innovation unit that can help to implement it both in the management process and in the commercialization and in the creation of new tourism products and services. In the case of technology, the destination is encouraged to have knowledge management tools.
