“The investment will represent the transformation of one of the most emblematic spaces of the municipality and will prevent its degradation, minimizing its environmental impact and making it compatible with economic activity.

Santa Susanna has managed to get the governments of Spain and Catalonia to commit to the strategic project to improve the sustainability of the spaces on the municipality’s seafront. It will receive 5 million euros from the Next Generation Funds, and obtained through the Call for Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destinations of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism.

The City Council has drawn up a strategic plan to improve the sustainability of the space through the management of tourism resources linked to the seafront to prevent its degradation, minimize environmental impacts and make it compatible with economic activity. That is, combine the model of sun, beach and nature.

The projects that Santa Susanna has presented and that have received the endorsement of the Spanish and Catalan governments are:

The construction of an underpass for vehicles and pedestrians that gives access to the sea front but at the same time limits its use; that regulates accesses and parking areas, with the aim of reducing the environmental impacts derived from road traffic on coastal ecosystems and people’s well-being. (Competitiveness)
The management and urbanization of the promenade as a natural maritime path that allows the confluence and enjoyment of various activities in the natural space of the path parallel to the beach, and on the beach itself, creating a space of well-being for practicing sports and physical activity , accessible, and that allows promoting active and healthy lifestyles. (Green and sustainable transition).
The implementation of technology in the destination to improve the governance and sustainability of the destination that allow the collection of environmental data, its management and the communication and awareness of residents and tourists (Digital Transition)
The reorganization of the tourist offer and the information management and promotion model promoting the digitization of the tourism sector. (digital transition and competitiveness)
All these plans are compatible with the Smart Tourist Destination (DTI) strategy of which the municipality is a part.

The Call for Tourism Sustainability Plans in Destinations of the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism was endowed with 615 million euros destined for the autonomous communities. Catalonia has received 69.87 million. Santa Susanna is the third municipality in Catalonia that will receive the most resources (5 million euros), only surpassed by Salou (6 million) and Lloret de Mar (5.9 million). And it is the only municipality in the Maresme region that has received it.”
