The mayor of Santa Susanna opens the AIPS Sport Media Awards Gala by explaining to the 400 sports journalists, managers and athletes from all over the world the values ​​behind the sardana and the castles and which symbolize Catalonia and its people

Mayor Joan Campolier used his opening speech at the AIPS Sport Media Awards Gala, which took place on Monday in Santa Susanna, to claim the values ​​of unity, dignity, strength and non-conformity of a society – the Catalan one – “that does not impose limits and that wants to reach as high as possible”. Campolier said this in front of the 400 sports journalists, sports leaders and athletes who came from all over the world to participate in the award ceremony of the International Sports Press Association (AIPS). The message sounded in the venue where the Gala took place – the Municipal Sports Pavilion – in Catalan, Spanish and English. It was also broadcast live on the City Council’s video channel on Instagram and through the official channels of the AIPS.

Campolier explained this after the Gala opened with the Castellers de l’Alt Maresme and the sardanista group Mans Amigues. The mayor explained that these two representations of Catalan culture symbolize the energy, effort and tenacity of this country which “next to solidarity, companionship and altruism are the values ​​we want to transmit to the future generations – also of athletes – so that they are better than us”.

During the AIPS Sport Media Awards Gala, the highest international awards in sports journalism were handed out. The awards recognize the best sports storytellers across all platforms, from photography to video, from graphic to digital journalism, from podcasts to sports blogs, print, radio, television, and more.

 

Centenary Congress

The 86th Congress of the AIPS has been held in Santa Susanna since Sunday, which is also the congress that commemorates its centenary and that has turned the town into the epicenter of elite world sport. AIPS was born in Paris in 1924 and is the most important organization of sports journalists on the planet, with more than 15,000 members.

As part of this summit that brings together more than 400 people from all over the world, Edwin Moses, considered the king of the 400 meter hurdles race, presented his autobiographical film, “Moses 13 steps”, on Monday. The title of the film refers to the number of steps he took between fences before jumping, one less than the rest of the athletes at the time. The film will soon be available on digital platforms.
